How to Keep Pooja Flowers Fresh Longer
Fresh flowers are an important part of daily pooja but they can wilt quickly, especially in warm weather. Follow these simple tips to keep your flowers fresh and fragrant for longer.
1. Store in Water
As soon as you receive your flowers, place the stems in a bowl or bucket of clean water. This keeps them hydrated and extends their life by several hours.
2. Keep in a Cool Place
Store flowers away from direct sunlight and heat. A shaded corner or the refrigerator (not freezer) helps flowers stay fresh overnight.
3. Trim the Stems
Cut about 1-2 cm from the bottom of each stem at an angle before placing in water. This allows the flower to absorb water more efficiently.
4. Change Water Daily
If keeping flowers in water overnight, change the water daily to prevent bacterial growth that wilts flowers.
5. Use Salt Water for Jasmine
Jasmine strings (malli poo) stay fresh longer when kept in lightly salted water. The salt prevents bacterial growth.
6. Avoid Fruit Nearby
Keep flowers away from fruits. Fruits release ethylene gas which speeds up wilting.
